Abbott Hardware Utility Cover T-shirt

£21.34

Back when New York ran on coal and chutzpah, the sidewalks of Greenwich Village were dotted with individual chutes to people’s basements. This design is pulled from an actual cast-iron coal chute cover we spotted half-buried near a stoop just west of Washington Square Park—stamped with ABBOTT HARDWARE CO., dotted with stars, and worn smooth by a century of boots, dog pee, and ghost stories.

We took that cover, gave it a proper rubdown (digitally, calm down), and reimagined it as a linocut-style graphic in bold indigo. The result? A shirt that says “I appreciate industrial design and neighborhood decay” without actually saying it.

Printed on lightweight, super-soft ringspun cotton with a regular fit and unisex sizing. The ink’s new, but the attitude’s vintage. Possible side effects may include:

• Approving nods from retired meatpackers and preservationists

• Instant entry into secret speakeasies (unverified)
